YPP Croydon Election Communication

Robin Smith, 49, is a professional student of the real economy. He has used twenty years as a  systems engineer to understand why we are in such a mess and what to do about it. He co-founded a Cambridge based economics think tank.

Why vote YPP?

Croydon, like the rest of the country, is being run as a giant pyramid scheme. Those at the top of the property and banking ladders win every time.

We are on the side of those who arrived too late: the priced-out, the tenants, the over-mortgaged and the over-taxed. Those who will lose out, no matter how hard they work or save.

My beliefs

  • I am on the side of the real wealth creators – which means workers and businesses. The other party's are just there to ensure that the already wealthy just get wealthier without lifting a finger.
  • I resigned my council seat in disgust because the Conservative majority only cared about keeping house prices and landlords’ profits as high as possible. The other party's are no better.
  • I want to stop the One Per Cent taking your wealth and giving nothing back in return, plunging the country into permanent recession in the process. And what are the other party’s doing..?

Our key policy

We will abolish all taxation except for that on the value of land.

Does this sound too simple? Too radical?

Then ask yourself: “Why are you being forced to pay twice, just to live in your own country?”

  1. The government takes half your earnings in tax as if you were causing harm by working. This discourages employment – except in the civil service – so they have to spend some of the tax you pay on welfare to prevent the unemployed from rioting.
  2. They spend most of your taxes on subsidies for landowners and banks, which pushes up rents and house prices - so you have to pay all over again just for somewhere to live.

Everybody in Croydon – tenants and homeowners, workers and businesses – plays their part in creating the rental values here. Not the rent collectors, the landlords and banks. But they get to keep all the rents and we let them get away with it.

Surely to keep voting for this is insanity?

Let’s tackle root causes, not just the symptoms

Yes, there are plenty of other problems we will have to sort out. But most of these are just the symptoms of our crazy pyramid-scheme “trickle up” economic system.

The other party's tinker with solutions to the little problems – we would rather sort out the biggest first!

What will I do for Croydon?

I will speak up for the shopkeepers, businesses and workers trapped between destructive taxes on their turnover, profits and wages and ever-rising rents.

I will speak up for people on involuntary welfare, willing and able to work, yet unable to find it due to those higher up the the pyramid ruining the economy.

Challenging the vested interests of landlords and banks is a scary prospect. They have a well-oiled propaganda machine and have convinced the majority into thinking that rising house prices make us richer.

Of course they don’t, all that happens is that the next generation has to take out larger mortgages, and who benefits most from that..?

If you really care about your future and your children’s future…

YPP election message garnering local Croydon support

Correspondence from an astute constituent this morning. All points we largely agree with and would adopt.

Points 3 and 4 are particularly important to consider in terms of the community. Both contribute largely to the value of locations(rental value) and are tax payer funded so both seem ideally paid for out of that location value by taxing the landowner receiving rents and relieving everyone else of other taxes. Remembering that a tax on rents cannot be passed on to the tenant. Economics 101.

And I quote:
  1. The need to shift the burden of taxation away from taxes on income and employment, and onto land (location) values.
  2. The need to reform the UK benefits and pensions system with the introduction of a universal Citizen's Income.
  3. Seeking to expand the agreement between the Metropolitan Police and the Croydon Business District to other parts of the constituency, so that there are more police on the streets.
  4. Saving the accident and emergency ward at St Helier's hospital.

Reader's Letter Of The Day

From the FT:

Sir, Sir John Thomson (Letters, October 24) asks how we are going to exert influence in the world if we turn our backs on Europe. Why should we want to influence other countries? We are no longer an imperial power and we should stop wasting money and manpower trying to be one.

Stephen Hazell-Smith, Penshurst, Kent.

Or to rephrase that, why would we want other countries to influence the UK?

Of course we all have to learn from each other's mistakes (the UK's record on this is no better or worse than anybody else's), and most countries are far more similar than the local nationalists would like to admit (because we have learned from each other), but that's the end of that.

Electoral Signatures at Brigstock

Today was the day that I had to go to Corby and get the nomination pack, and the electoral registers to get my signatures so that I could be on the ballot paper. For anyone who doesn't yet know ten signatures of electors in the constituency need to be presented along with the £500 deposit in order to stand for election in the same constituency. The By election in Corby will be held on 15th November along with the Police Commissioners on the same day. There are likely to be 12-14 candidates for the Corby by election I would like to say a big thank you to the people in Brigstock who signed my form today, and who have reassured my faith in the democratic process.

The Great Tax Clawback Scam

Fred Harrison at his best -

Croydon North election message

Why vote for the Young People's Party?
Croydon and the whole country is run like a giant pyramid selling scam. The ones nearer the top of the property ladder win. The Young People under 40, still without a home at the bottom lose. HELLO!?

Where does Robin Smith stand politically
I resigned my Tory Councillor seat in disgust because the Conservatives only cared about their property. The other parties are the same. I believe in free markets and a functioning government, yet we have neither. I am pro wealth but it's being robbed from YOU by land owners. I mean to change that.

What is our policy?
Why are you paying twice to live in your own country? Once in Taxes. Twice in Rents or Mortgages:
  1. Half your earnings, are confiscated in tax, to pay for government, as if you were harming it
  2. Enormous benefits are given to land owners, tax free, as if they needed welfare
Location value makes up most of the value of the country. Surely to keep voting for this is insanity?

I will start to abolish mortgage debts and all taxation on work, business and sales. And start to fund government from the increasing value created by the whole community - the location values.

Yes, there will be other problems to deal with. I'm going after the big ones first. If you have a problem with that you'd better have a jolly good reason. Rely on the other parties to deal with the small problems.

We are not trying to convert you. We are trying to point out how the economy really works, to think about that carefully and then decide for yourself. The others only tell you what to do, right?

What will I do for Croydon?
Remember this. Nearly all Croydon land owners do not live in Croydon or even this country. Do not worry about them. If they complain I will happily drive them back to the airport.

I will be calling on all the land owners, the banks who finance them and politicians in parliament who do their bidding, to ask a deadly serious question:

"By what right are you forcing the people to pay twice to live in their own country?"

I will be calling on all government to ask why they keep giving away free gifts to land owners, then asking you to pay higher taxes to bail these scroungers out.

I will ask the Croydon gangs to tell us their story. Because we have robbed them the most. If we can hear them, surely everything beyond will improve? I will not blame them if they choose silence.

I will do the same for Croydon people on involuntary welfare, willing and able to work, but unable to find it. Who is really listening to them at the top?

If you think this is all naive and too good to be true, that is only because the dead politics of today has convinced you to aim too low.

I'm asking you to do a fair trade. Vote with integrity for the Young People, our future, and I will use all my strength to get this done.

Robin Smith.
